Releases Mark First Data Standards in These Areas of Dealership Business<\/em> <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

MCLEAN, Va., January 20, 2026<\/strong>– The Standards for Technology in Automotive Retail (STAR), automotive\u2019s leading IT standards organization, announced that it has released first standards for fleet vehicle rentals and loyalty customer leads for retail automotive.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Fleet Vehicles Rental API\u202ffor managing vehicle rentals offers endpoints for several key functions, including retrieving\u202fvehicle availability\u202fwith time slots and pricing information, and managing\u202freservations\u202f(creation, retrieval, updates, and cancellation). It also includes an endpoint for handling\u202ffleet\u202faccounting transactions\u202frelated to rentals, such as payments and financial reconciliation within a Dealer Management System (DMS). The specification defines numerous required and optional\u202fheader and query parameters, such as dealer ID, country code, and date ranges, along with detailed\u202fdata schemas\u202ffor vehicle, pricing, reservation, and customer information. The API outlines the various\u202fHTTP response codes\u202ffor successful requests and potential errors like bad requests or authentication failures. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“These new APIs represent a major step forward in modernizing how critical dealership operations exchange data,” said Steve Zadoorian, Executive Director of STAR<\/strong>. “For the first time, retailers, OEMs, and technology providers have a consistent, open standard for fleet rental workflows and loyalty-based customer lead management. These specifications were shaped directly by our members, and they reflect STAR\u2019s commitment to delivering practical, scalable standards that make integration faster, reduce costs, and improve the customer experience across the entire automotive ecosystem.”  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Loyalty Customer Lead API is designed to synchronize customer updates between Dealer Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems and Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) systems. This specification outlines the various endpoints for managing customer lead data, including operations to retrieve a list of customer leads, get details for a specific customer ID, update customer lead details, and publish notifications about customer lead updates. The API requires mandatory header parameters like country code, CRM ID, and dealer ID for all operations, and it defines detailed schemas for customer information, addresses, contact methods, and error responses. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
