8.8. BACKUP

Another area of great importance is the backup of system data. For dealer's that have an onsite DMS server this should require a strict policy. Backups should be done on a frequent basis (daily is recommended). The transportation and location of the backup is also important. It is recommended that backup media be stored at a secure offsite location is case of acts of nature such as flooding, hurricanes, etc. A dealer should know which personnel are responsible for handling these steps in the event of an emergency.

For dealer's that utilize an offsite server or ASP solution with their DMS provider these backups are handled by the DMS provider in a secure manner.
